Why does bulbasaur refuse to evolve

Delia let Mimey use Psychic to keep Bulbasaur safe until it was disrupted by Gilbert who sneezes causing them to be chased by it. Both Gilbert and the little Bulbasaur ends up in a cliff, they are rescued by Ash's and puts them to safety and faces all of the Primeape. Bulbasaur scares them by shooting a Solar Beam much to Gilbert's amusement and it scares all the Primeape away in fear. When James activates the cabin into a large steel guard building, May, Max along with two Bulbasaur manage to get through the roof as their Vine Whip is used to get what's stolen.

Pikachu manages to knock through the wall with Iron Tail. Before being transported back to Professor Oak's lab, Bulbasaur bids farewell to May's Bulbasaur while it happily patted her head with its vines. May decides to leave her Bulbasaur with Professor Oak so she can learn from Ash's.

Ash releases his Bulbasaur to make a reunion with his Pikachu as well as its best friend Squirtle as the trio are seen in a friendly hug until the arrival of Charizard. When Charizard is causing mischief towards its best friend Squirtle, Bulbasaur tries to discipline him with Vine Whip but Charizard dodges as it slaps Pikachu by it causing the latter to get mad even Ash tried to calm them down but failed as Pikachu electrocutes them with its Thunderbolt.

Bulbasaur can be seen training with Ash along with Pikachu, Squirtle, and Charizard for the battle against Brandon. Bulbasaur uses Razor Leaf but it didn't do a thing as both Charizard and Squirtle's attack won't work either. Ash becomes relentless to see this, as it uses a combination of both Charizard and Squirtle's Flamethrower and Water Gun combination to make a crack on the steel Meowth Balloon allowing Bulbasaur to destroy it using Razor Leaf to make them fall into the ground.

At the Battle Pyramid, it battled against Brandon's Dusclops after it manages to bring down Charizard. Ash snapped it out of the confusion and defeated it with Solar Beam.

Bulbasaur then returned to Pallet Town with Professor Oak after the battle. Bulbasaur reappears at Professor Oak's Laboratory, where Heracross is sucking sap from its bulb, much to Bulbasaur's annoyance. It used Vine Whip to shove Heracross away. Bulbasaur reappeared in a flashback when Ash was explaining the story about his Charizard.

It was happy to see Pikachu again. Bulbasaur reappears during Ash's flashback where he retells to Misty and Brock about the Mysterious Garden headed by Venusaur which Ash defends it due to Bulbasaur who doesn't want to evolve like the others who were evolved into Ivysaur.

It reappears again where it was seen breaking the fight between an Oddish, Gloom, and Vileplume and a Bellsprout, Weepinbell, and Victreebel and being reunited with Ash, Brock and his new Alolan friends, Kiawe and Sophocles.

When Brock tries to calm down a wild Onix, it, Ash, Sophocles, and Kiawe are briefly relieved before Kiawe's Marowak attacks it causing the wild Onix to chase them as Ash carries Bulbasaur during the chase.

After Jigglypuff put them to sleep and has marks made by it, Bulbasaur was last seen eating with the others outside at Professor Oak's lab. Bulbasaur appears in Advice to Goh! About Us. Here's some of the theories for each Cyndaquil: I don't think Ash would be very keen on having another Fire Type evolve that soon after the Charizard incident.

Heck, if he couldn't control his Quilava, the thing might very well set is pants on fire repeatedly. While this would've been a wonderful gag, such misfortunes are reserved to happen to Team Rocket, not Ash Totodile: Totodile was too busy dancing around and chasing love interests that he didn't have time to be focused on evolution.

Squirtle: Squirtle was iconic as a Squirtle. It just wouldn't be the same if he were to become Wartortle or Blastoise. My profile. Seen December 10th, Age 6. It's obvious why Squirtle did not evolve. It was part of the Squirtle Squad, Even though he left for a while, he still knew he would return.

So he did not evolve. Even then, it's still strange that Totodile was left out of the group. He would quickly use Corphish in his battle against the Gym Leader Brawly, and he stayed a powerhouse for Ash's team in early Hoenn.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Buizel was actually captured by Ash's friend Dawn in the Diamond and Pearl seasons of the anime. However, when she realized that Buizel was more suited to battling, she traded him with Ash's Aipom. Due to his love for one-on-one combat, Buizel ended up becoming one of Ash's most skilled fighters.

Given how powerful he was as just a Buizel, it's honestly surprising Ash's Buizel never evolved into a Floatzel. Unfortunately, that did not happen, and Ash lost in a battle where he had his feeble Gible in his party. Ash hatched Scraggy from an egg, and ever since hatching, Ash's Scraggy loved to headbutt everything.

What's odd with Scraggy's case is that there was less of a reason for him not to evolve than the normal reason. However, Scraggy isn't cute as is. They might have as well evolved him into a Scrafty. Oshawott was with Ash for most of his journey in Unova , yet it just never evolved. It was a vital member of Ash's team during the Black and White seasons, though he admittedly acted like a coward sometimes when he thought he couldn't win a fight.

It's possible it was his own cowardness that prevented him from evolving.
